Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Due to disruptions on Brussels’ Metro Line 6 and other public transport cancellations, Union Saint-Gilloise advises fans going to King Baudouin Stadium to cycle, offering expanded bike parking at Stand 1. For those unable to bike, shared rides or taxis are suggested, with a discount code available on Union’s website. Parking C is open for drivers.
Today February 13, 2025, public transport is having issues. Metro line 6 is not running, and some trams and buses are cancelled. Officials mentioned that fans going to King Baudouin Stadium need to find other ways to travel. There are also concerns about the pitch.
Union Saint-Gilloise cannot provide transport, but they want to help fans. They suggest cycling to the stadium. They mentioned that the bike parking area at Stand 1 has been made bigger and will be secure. Fans should plan their routes, as nearby roads may be busier than usual.
What alternative transport methods are suggested for stadium access?
According to officials, for those who want to use public transport, there are still options available. Tram lines 7 and 62 stop at Heysel/Heizel, which is close to the stadium. Trams 9, 19, and 51 also stop at Stade/Stadion. Several De Lijn bus lines, like 241, 242, 243, 250, 251, and 260, go to the Koning Boudewijn stop near the stadium.
They mentioned that fans should check for real-time updates from MIVB/STIB. There may be crowds and delays due to the current situation. No matter how fans choose to travel, they should allow extra time for their journey. It is also important to stay informed about any last-minute changes.
“We have a very local following. We therefore advise our supporters to come by bike, if possible,”
Says Union spokesman Maarten Verdoodt.
“The bicycle parking at stand 1, at the front of the stadium, is being expanded and is secured as always.”
Union Saint-Gilloise is telling fans who cannot ride bikes to avoid the metro or tram today because of problems. The club suggests using shared rides or taxis to get to King Baudouin Stadium more easily.
To help fans, Union has a special discount code on its website. This code gives fans a lower price for shared rides or taxis. This plan aims to help with transport issues and make sure fans can arrive on time without stress.
For fans who want to drive, Parking C is available for paid parking, like for other events at the stadium. According to officials, because public transport is limited, there may be more cars on the road. Fans should arrive early to find parking and avoid traffic.
They mentioned that tickets for the match are still available, which gives more fans a chance to attend. Union is working hard to help its supporters handle transport issues so they can enjoy the game without stress.
