Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Belgium train services will be disrupted from February 1, 2025, to March 2, 2025, due to Infrabel’s track renovations near Brussels Airport. This affected direct routes from Namur, Hasselt, Leuven, and Liège. Passengers must switch trains at Brussels-North or use De Lin buses from Zaventem Dorp.

Work being done on the Zaventem airport in Belgium has also been affecting the train service running between several parts of Belgium to Brussels Airport. Trains from major cities like Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, and the European Quarter are still running, but they are not as frequent as before.

Authorities mentioned that travellers from Namur are most affected because there are no direct trains to the airport. Direct train services from Hasselt, Leuven, and Liège have also been stopped. They mentioned that passengers from these areas now need to change trains more than before, making their journeys longer and more inconvenient.

How will train disruptions affect travel to Brussels airport?

According to officials, travellers coming from Hasselt, Leuven and Liège may make a transfer in Brussels-North station for going to the airport. They can also take De Lijn buses from Zaventem Dorp station. Bus lines R26 and 82 are available for those with valid NMBS tickets.

Due to train work near Brussels Airport, the National Railway Company of Belgium is making changes to help travellers. They are adding more trains to Zaventem Dorp station. Authorities mentioned that this gives passengers another way to reach the airport since direct trains to Brussels Airport are less frequent.

De Lijn is also increasing bus services between Zaventem Dorp and the airport. De Lijn mentioned that this plan aims to keep the airport easy to reach for travellers from cities like Hasselt, Leuven, and Liège, where direct trains are not running right now.

Infrabel is doing railway work to improve train travel to Brussels Airport. They are replacing two switches, 600 m of track and 1200 m of rails will be renewed. This work is in the southern part of the tunnel that connects the airport to the main train network.

According to authorities, because of this, people can only reach the station from the northern side, which means fewer trains are running to the airport. They mentioned that travellers should plan their trips early and check real-time updates from NMBS and De Lijn to manage these changes and use the extra transport options available.
