Brussels transforms key areas to prioritize pedestrians, cyclists, and public Transitions

Brussels (The Brussels Morning newspaper):Brussels is implementing traffic-calming measures in key areas like Polaertplein and Regentschapsstraat to promote walking, cycling and public transition while preserving historical sites and balancing business needs.

In Brussels they’re making big changes in important areas like Polaertplein, Regentschapsstraat, Koningsstraat and more. They’re doing this to make it easier for people to walk around, reduce traffic jams and make the city more pleasant. By creating zones where cars can’t go or have limited access in these places. Brussels is trying to focus on eco-friendly ways of getting around and make the city better for everyone who lives there or visits. Brussels is changing some areas to help the environment and encourage different ways of getting around. They want to make these places safer for people walking and biking, promote using buses and trains and protect historical sites from too much traffic. The city is working with locals to find a good balance between business, preserving old buildings and public areas.

What traffic changes and public transport options are available in Brussels during the Te Deum event and parade?

The police in Brussels suggest using the train or metro to get there. They’ll have more trains and longer service in the evenings. There are parking lots for changing to public transport in places like Kraainem, Heizel, Delta, and Roodebeek. The Palace Square will be shut from the morning of July 19 until around 6 pm on July 22. The Stefaniatunnel exit at Poelaert will be closed from the evening of July 20 until about 3 pm on July 22.

During the Te Deum event the Sint-Lazarustunnel will close at 6 am. From 7.30 am to 11.30 am there will be no traffic around the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula and on several streets like Pachecolaan, Berlaimontlaan and more. Koningsstraat will also be partially closed from 8.30 am. For the parade the Park metro station will close at 9 am. From 12 pm until around midnight, the Jubelparktunnel, Wettunnel and Reyerstunnel will be closed. Traffic won’t be possible in the Kruidtuinlaan/Rogierplein/Albert II-laan area during these times.

During the parade avoid Wetstraat as the parade won’t go through there due to work on the Schuman roundabout. The King’s viewing of the troops will be in Kruidtuinlaan and Koningsstraat which usually have more space than Place des Palais. To reach the Warandepark Party, use the Louiza metro station and head to Warandepark via Poelaertolein. The concert in Jubelpark starts at 9:00 pm, with the park open to the public from 6:00 pm. Fireworks are scheduled from 11:00 pm to 11:30 pm.
