Kyiv (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would not accept the US-Russia discussions outcome if not engaged.
In remarks reported by the Associated Press and Reuters, he stated Kyiv won’t take part in US-Russia discussions this week on concluding the war and won’t accept the result of the talks if Ukraine doesn’t participate.
Talking to journalists on a meeting call from the United Arab Emirates, Zelenskyy stated his administration had not been invited to planned discussions in Saudi Arabia.
What is Ukraine’s stance on negotiations without its presence?
He stated they would “yield no results,” given the lack of any Ukrainian officers.
“Ukraine regards any negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine as ones that have no result, and we cannot recognise … any agreements about us without us,”
He stated.
The Ukrainian president also stated that “for the first time”, he reported some interest from China over any territory of Russian invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy also rebuked the floated idea of a minerals deal with the US, stating that Ukraine cannot be just witnessed as a “simple supplier of raw materials” and that any agreement would require to include “at least somehow” other security assurances.
Zelenskyy also said that he expected to acquire more clarity on any future engagement with Trump only after US representative Keith Kellogg visited Ukraine.
How did Zelenskyy react to Trump’s call with Putin?
Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Donald Trump a few days earlier that he doesn’t think Vladimir Putin is ready for peace talks.
The U.S. president’s unexpected phone call to Russia sent tremors via Kyiv and around Europe as the US and Moscow intend to decide on Ukraine’s destiny between themselves.
“Trump said to me that Putin wants to stop the war. I said to him, ‘Putin is a liar. I hope that you will pressure him because I don’t trust him.’ We had a direct conversation with Putin about a cease-fire in 2019,”
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated while talking on a security cooperation panel at the Munich Security Conference.
