Belgium, (Brussels Morning Newspaper) The Galleries Royales Saint-Hubert in the center of Brussels, next to the Grand Place, celebrates its 175th anniversary with a historical retrospective exhibition that will continue from December 15, 2022 to June 30, 2023. On June 20, 1847, the Galeries Royale Saint-Hubert officially opened to the general public. Ten years after the creation of the design and after a construction period of only thirteen months, the monumental covered passage was a fact. The design by architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar gave the Parisian transit model a new dimension with the two galleries, which are 8 meters wide and 210 meters long in total. With its shops, restaurants, cafes, cinema and theater, the Sint-Hubertus Galleries grew into an attraction that welcomes 6 million visitors every year.
The exhibition starts with a timeline that starts with the birth of Belgium and continues to today. All important events related to the galleries are included in it. The exhibition is divided into three parts that show the origins and developments on the basis of original documents and sketches, highlight the cultural life in the galleries and also take a look at the future.
The Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert have been listed since 1986. It was the first step towards a renovation that started in 1995 and is still going on.
