Brussels Society embraces sustainability new €2.8M building in Saint-Gilles

Brussels ( The Brussels Morning Newspaper): In the renovated building there will be 15 apartments in the middle and a social recycling center that gathered 128 tons of items in 2023 of which 111 tons were reutilized at Saint-Gilles.

The €2.8 million renovation will include fifteen apartments in the renovated building. The ground floor and is slated for a spacious area to be used by a non-profit organization called the Social Recycling Centre that collects goods, furniture and other items to be refurbished or recycled to be given to people in need DH reports.

How a social recycling center in Saint-Gilles gives discarded items new life?

La Recyclerie Sociale collected 128 tons in 2023 reusing 111 tons of it. They take away material items people in the households want to get rid of refurbish them and resell at low prices. Managed by Group One in cooperation with the local authorities this recycling project has been in place for some time. The move to a new location proves that the authorities of Saint-Gilles want to see more publicity for the non-profit organization. They found it challenging to attract clients to their old premises along Rue de Belgrade.

Next to the Social Recycling Centre the Couture Truck will also be there. This group is famous for its truck that travels around the city’s markets and squares. People can take their clothes there to get them repaired. Now that they are based in Saint-Gilles permanently they fix alter and even customize clothes using donated fabric scraps from Oxfam with whom they work together. The sewing workshop also makes its own clothes like a raincoat created from old umbrellas which has become very popular.
