Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Brussel(Pou)belle and the City of Brussels held a clean-up in Alhambra, collecting 10 trash bags. 4 Illegal dumpers were fined €550. Anas Ben Abdelmoumen praised the effort.

As VRT News reported, Brussel(Pou)belle, a group with a name that sounds like “garbage bin” in French, is working to make Brussels cleaner. They use Instagram to show problems like trash and dirty areas.

They want to make people aware of urban neglect and hold the city and its leaders accountable. Besides social media, they suggest changes to politicians to make lasting improvements. Brussel(Pou)Belle also organises big clean-up events, getting volunteers to help pick up litter.

How did Brussel(Pou)belle and the city of Brussels tackle Alhambra’s cleanliness?

Brussel(Pou)belle, the group working to clean up Brussels, had a big event yesterday, 18, 2025. They teamed up with the City of Brussels for their first joint clean-up. They picked the Alhambra district for the clean-up. This area has many issues, like empty buildings, illegal rentals, and problems with drugs.

Brussel(Pou)belle wanted to show how these issues are connected to the area’s cleanliness and overall problems. They mentioned that this clean-up is a positive step, hoping to get more help from the city and address the root causes of urban decay.

They spent 2 hours cleaning up the neighbourhood. They used gloves, grabbers, and trash bags to pick up litter. While cleaning, they spoke with people about why it’s important to keep public areas clean. They gathered 10 big bags of trash. Residents and street cleaners worked together, giving people a chance to help clean their neighbourhood.

At the same time, city officials watched to make sure people followed the rules about trash. They found 4 people who were illegally dumping trash. One person was caught putting garbage bags by a tree. These people were fined a total of €550.

Anas Ben Abdelmoumen, who is in charge of keeping the city clean, was happy with the clean-up. He said these events help clean the area and let them talk to residents. They also learn about the specific problems in neighbourhoods like Alhambra.
