How is Brussels addressing police safety after Officer Monjoie’s Murder?

Yassine Mahi, 32, has been arrested for killing police officer Thomas Monjoie and trying to harm another officer. Earlier that day, he went to a police station in Brabant and said he wanted to kill a police officer. He was taken to a psychiatric unit but managed to leave. Olivier Slosse, the police chief, said that violence against police officers is not acceptable and that their safety is very important for them to do their jobs. He promised to keep working on safety in the community to honor Monjoie’s memory.

“Two years after the attack on Thomas and his colleague, the situation in Noordwijk is still difficult,” said police chief Olivier Slosse. He explained that they have added more police officers in the area with help from other police stations. Slosse said they will keep working on plans to make the neighborhood safer. He also mentioned that Noordwijk has problems with drug sales, and many local groups want to help improve safety.
