Sana’a (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – After President Donald Trump ordered, the U.S. launched large-scale military strikes against Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis on Saturday over the organisation’s attacks against Red Sea shipping, resulting in the death of at least 31 people at the beginning of a drive expected to last many days.
To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
As part of his warning, Trump told the Houthis’ main supporter, that it needed to immediately end support for the group. He stated if Iran threatened the United States,
America will hold you fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it!
A total of 31 were killed and 101 others wounded in the U.S. strikes, mostly women and children, Anees al-Asbahi, spokesperson for the Houthi-run health ministry, stated in an updated toll on Sunday. The Houthis’ political bureau characterised the attacks as a “war crime.”
Our Yemeni armed forces are fully prepared to respond to escalation with escalation,
it said in a statement.
How did Iran respond to the US military action?
The top Commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards responded by stating the Houthis are independent and take their own strategic and operational decisions.
We warn our enemies that Iran will respond decisively and destructively if they take their threats into action,
Hossein Salami told the Iranian state media.
Iranian foreign ministry denounced strikes on Yemen as a “gross violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental rules of international law”, according to state media. The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated the U.S. government had “no authority, or business, dictating Iranian foreign policy.”
End support for Israeli genocide and terrorism. Stop killing of Yemeni people,
he said.
How does the US justify its actions?
Meanwhile, the U.S. military’s Central Command, which leads troops in the Middle East, referred to Saturday’s strikes as the beginning of a large-scale operation across Yemen. The strikes on Saturday were conducted in part by fighter aircraft from the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, which is in the Red Sea, officials stated.
Houthi attacks on American ships & aircraft (and our troops!) will not be tolerated; and Iran, their benefactor, is on notice,
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth noted.
