Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A Ukrainian missile strike killed three people in a town in Russia’s Belgorod area bordering Ukraine on Wednesday, the local governor said.

“The village of Maslova Pristan in the Shebekinsky District was hit by a missile strike. According to preliminary data, three people were killed and one was wounded,”

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated n Telegram, saying that some people could still be entangled under remains.

Earlier, the governor stated that approximately 40,000 residents in the Belgorod region initially lost power due to Ukrainian drone strikes on local energy infrastructure. By Monday morning, at least 5,400 residents remained without electricity.

How has Ukraine intensified attacks inside Russia in 2025?

By 2025, Ukraine has stepped up missile and drone strikes within Russia. These strikes involved Ukrainian forces targeting key military and industrial assets, including ammunition depots, oil terminals, and energy infrastructure deep inside Russia. The Ukrainian forces began these mass drone and missile attacks on a range of Russian fuel supplies that damaged fuel sources, causing shortages and disruption for the military.

Multiple strikes impacted Russian cities and industrial facilities in various regions, including Tyumen in Western Siberia and Crimea, and while Russia’s air defences have shot down a number of those attacks, some caused undeniable damage.

Ukrainian attacks on border-adjacent Russian regions have included incursions and constant drone and missile strikes, especially in Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk oblasts.

How often has Ukraine targeted the Belgorod region?

In 2024 and extending into 2025, Ukrainian forces executed both raids, notably tank and infantry incursions, in border areas in operations that occurred in the Kursk and Belgorod regions aimed at driving a buffer zone inside Russian territory and relieving pressure from Ukrainian fronts.

In more recent developments in 2025, Ukraine has escalated missile and drone strikes in Belgorod against energy infrastructure and population centres, resulting in serious power outages after strikes in September 2025. Among other incidents, on September 29, 2025, Ukrainian missile strikes struck the Belgorod region multiple times, damaging energy centres and wounding civilians.
