Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ukrainian launched multiple drone attacks on Russia’s Belgorod region bordering Ukraine. Two civilians were killed, the regional governor said.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov stated that one man was killed in the village of Malinovka around 8 km east of the border overnight.

Gladkov further revealed that several other settlements came under Ukrainian attack, a woman passed away in hospital, and another civilian suffered wounds after a passenger car came under a drone incursion.

How is the drone war escalating between Ukraine and Russia?

Recent trends suggest a sharp upscaling of the drone war between the Ukrainians and Russians

On February 1, 2025, Russia launched a significant attack with 123 drones and more than 40 missiles. The attack has killed at least 15, including children and left many other people injured throughout several regions: Poltava and Odesa.

The Ukrainian military is said to have successfully brought down 56 drones, though many missiles were also intercepted by air defence.

On 29 January 2025, Ukraine launched a massive drone assault, targeting key Russian energy infrastructure that included oil plants and electrical plants. According to reports, more than 100 drones were reportedly involved, and most of them were claimed to have been intercepted by Russian air defences.

Interestingly, according to a report, one of the aerial drones was knocked out when attempting to attack Smolensk Nuclear Power Station, which performed normally after it was attacked.
