Ukraine reports 139 Russian drones, 2 injured in strikes

Kyiv (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia attacked overnight with 139 drones and one Iskander-M ballistic missile, resulting in two injuries and damage to storage facilities.

The air force downed 78 drones, and 34 more failed to reach their targets, it said in a statement on Telegram without determining what happened to the remaining 27 drones or the missile.

Local officials reported that an overnight assault ignited a fire in an enterprise hangar located in the Poltava region. This incident resulted in injuries to two individuals and damaged two storage facilities in the Kyiv region.

According to Governor Oleh Syniehubov, the drone strike caused damage to railway power lines and ignited a fire covering 8,400 square meters near a non-operating enterprise in Izium, situated in northeastern Kharkiv. He noted that while two civilian infrastructure facilities were harmed, there were no reported casualties.

While Russian and Ukrainian delegations engage in cease-fire talks with US officials in Riyadh, Moscow’s forces are ramping up their assaults on Ukrainian positions at the front line near Pokrovsk, according to soldiers in the region speaking to Current Time.

How did the strikes affect infrastructure and civilians?

A day earlier, Russia also launched a barrage of drones across Ukraine overnight that left at least seven people dead, according to local Ukrainian officials and emergency services.

Russia deployed 147 drones over Ukraine during the night, as reported by the Ukrainian Air Force. 97 Ukrainian aircraft were shot down, while 25 others failed to reach targets due to Ukrainian countermeasures. The assaults targeted the regions of Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Donetsk, including the capital, Kyiv.

A drone strike in Kyiv resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a 5-year-old child, while ten others sustained injuries, according to the city’s military administration said. Prolonged explosions echoed through the Ukrainian capital during the early hours, as air raid sirens rang out for over five hours. Russian drones, along with debris from downed aircraft that were flying at lower altitudes to dodge air defenses, plummeted onto residential areas buildings.

Additionally, a Russian drone strike in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals and injuries to 12 others, as reported by local officials. Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov stated that the attack the night before ignited residential and communal buildings, along with several vehicles. Images depicted emergency responders searching through the debris for survivors.
