Warsaw (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted to US President Donald Trump’s recent claim that the European Union was formed to “screw” the North American country, showing a strong defence of the EU’s founding principles.
In his response on X, Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasised that the European Union was not formed to hurt any nation, including the US.
“Quite the opposite,”
He said.
“It was formed to maintain peace, to build respect among our nations, to create free and fair trade, and to strengthen our transatlantic friendship. As simple as that.”
Polish prime minister’s remarks came a day after Trump blasted the European Union for what he characterised as unfair trade practices. Trump accused the EU of blocking US car exports while benefiting from unrestricted access to the US market, claiming that the EU’s establishment was designed to “screw” the US. Trump also has made agendas to put a 25% tariff on European Union automobiles and other imports.
The EU wasn’t formed to screw anyone. Quite the opposite. It was formed to maintain peace, to build respect among our nations, to create free and fair trade, and to strengthen our transatlantic friendship. As simple as that. 🇪🇺🇺🇸

What does Tusk say about Trump’s tariffs on the EU?
Last month, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk indicated that he sees no urgent reason to worry about the possible U.S. tariffs on European Union products. Though acknowledging the issue as a problem, he pointed out that Poland is ready for any eventuality.
“You are certainly concerned about recent events – Donald Trump’s announcement of high tariffs on the European Union, including Poland, the intensification of fighting in Ukraine, the rise of pro-Putin radical forces in Europe, or illegal migration,”
Tusk stated.
“Yes, there is cause for concern, but not for fear. Here in Poland, we have a good response to these crises,”
He also said.
Moreover, Tusk underlined that Poland is experiencing record-high and dynamic economic growth. He also stressed that it is maintaining its modern and well-equipped army. He also stated that the government has recovered control of the country’s borders and territorial waters, is seeking an “intelligent but firm” migration policy, and is conducting an “effective” foreign policy.
