Occupants escape burning car after crash in Merksem

Merksem (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A car crashed into a building and caught fire in Merksem’s Westkaai. The occupants fled the scene, prompting an investigation by emergency services.

Several residents fled as soon as the impact occurred, according to witnesses. The identity of the driver is currently being investigated by the authorities.

Witnesses heard a car approaching Merksem, Belgium, Westkaai at around two in the morning, its tires squealing. 

There was a bang against a business’s exterior a short while after. Witnesses observed multiple individuals fleeing the truck as it instantly caught

“The fire department arrived to extinguish the fire and the car was towed,”

Says Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp police.

“We are now trying to find out who the driver was.” 

How has this incident affected traffic or safety measures in Merksem?

Local authorities will probably investigate and perhaps improve traffic safety measures and traffic management in the area in order to prevent similar incidents, as evidenced by the recent incident in Merksem when occupants fled after an accident and a car caught fire.
