The government aims to plant more trees by 2030, giving farmers first rights to buy land in farm areas. They’re bringing in a “Blue Deal 2.0” to help with droughts and floods by making wetlands, protecting peatlands, and keeping pastures green. The Natuurpunt leader said we should move quickly though most of nature in Flanders is in bad shape. He wants politicians to stop arguing and start investing smartly in restoring nature to fight climate change effectively and affordably.
Is the Blue Deal Enough for Environmental Improvement?
The group is happy about the Blue Deal getting bigger but says it will only work well if enough money and actual work is happening on the land. Bond Beter Leefmilieu is not happy with the government deal. They think it’s not okay to blame Flanders’ crowded areas for not aiming high on the environment. They say the government’s beginning is wrong.
