Lichtervelde (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The ‘t Hof care center in Lichtervelde will expand with 20 extra rooms, 7 assisted living units, a daycare centre, a library, and a larger service center. Alderman Ann Gunst (CD&V) confirms the €10.5M project, designed by PULS Architecten and Osar Architects, starts mid-2026 and finishes by 2028.

The ‘t Hof residential care center in Lichtervelde, Belgium, is expanding. The center already has 80 rooms, a local service centre, and 28 assisted living units.  They’ve been wanting to expand for a while, and now they have a plan. The new building will have a library, a bigger local service centre, 20 more rooms for the care centre, 7 more assisted living units, and a daycare center for seniors.

That design may still change slightly, but this is already quite definitive,

explains Alderman for Care and Welfare Ann Gunst (CD&V).

How will Lichtervelde’s ‘t Hof €10.5M expansion improve care?

According to the officials, the expansion of ‘t Hof is a big deal for Lichtervelde.  It’s not just about more rooms for care but about making the centre a central place for the whole community.  The project is being built by PULS Architecten and Osar architects and will cost about 3.2 million euros.

The town is going to borrow 3.5 million euros to pay for it, but they say it won’t make taxes go up. Officials mentioned that the new building will have lots of different services so people in Lichtervelde and nearby towns can get all the care they need in one place.

It is important that the experience of the library, the local service centre and the residential care centre are connected. People who go to the residential care centre can then immediately come and read a newspaper or a magazine.

Alderman Ann Gunst

The town of Lichtervelde is expanding the ‘t Hof care center because they need more space. The alderman for Care and Welfare, Ann Gunst, says there are always too many people who need care and assisted living. There are usually 20 to 25 people waiting for a room. They also don’t have a daycare center for older people, so they have to go to other towns for help.  The new ‘t Hof will have a daycare center so people can stay in Lichtervelde.

The plans for the new ‘t Hof care center are almost finished and will be presented in September 2025. Once the plans are approved, they will ask for permission to build it.  Officials said that if everything goes well, they can start building in the middle of 2026.

They mentioned that it will take about a year and a half to build, so the new center should be ready by the end of 2027 or early 2028. The whole project will cost about 10.5 million euros. The new center will have more space for people to live and get help.
