They attacked a police vehicle, stole bulletproof vests, and shot fireworks at officers. Local teacher Ibrahim Ben Mzair noted that they want to prevent such incidents from happening again in the neighborhood.

According to Ibrahim Ben Mzair, they have been talking to local youth and noticed there aren’t many activities for them on New Year’s Eve, which can lead to trouble. To help, the mosque will be open tonight on 31st December from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. for young people aged 14 to 25, working together with the Antwerp police. There will be lectures, a quiz, a FIFA tournament, and free food and drinks. Stewards will also be on the streets to make sure everyone gets home safely, aiming to keep the neighborhood calm.
