What is the history behind shootings in Anderlecht?

Anderlecht within Brussels has seen a significant rise in violent occurrences, including shootings, during the past years. The 2022 statistics provided by police show that Anderlecht experienced more than twenty incidents involving firearms apart from drug trafficking and gang crimes. Crime statistics indicate that Bizetplein serves as one of the locations most affected by such incidents.

Crime fighters conduct more patrols and surveillance to prevent organised crime while dealing with limitations from deep criminal networks embedded within the community structure. In 2021, Brussels police officers confiscated 450 illicit weapons, which verifies that violent gun incidents persist in the region.

A police spokesperson stated,

These incidents are often interconnected, making it difficult to dismantle the networks responsible.”
