Kyiv (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In a large-scale overnight drone assault, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s Black Sea port city of Odesa, injuring three individuals and causing damage to numerous apartments, local authorities reported early Tuesday.

“The enemy targeted a residential area in a densely populated district of Odesa,”

Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov said, sharing images of a fire blazing and flat buildings with windows broken and facades harmed.

Governor Oleh Kiper reported that three individuals were injured in the attack and are currently receiving medical assistance. On Tuesday, the Ukrainian air force stated that Russia deployed 54 drones in an overnight assault, with 38 of them being intercepted and 16 failing to reach their targets, likely due to electronic warfare countermeasures.

Kiper stated that the assault on Odesa caused damage to residences, civilian infrastructure, an educational institution, and vehicles. Footage released by emergency services depicted crews extinguishing a significant fire in one of the affected buildings. Odesa, which houses three ports, has frequently been targeted by Russian attacks throughout the ongoing war, now extending over three years.

Moreover, a few days prior, officials from the southern Ukrainian region reported that a Russian drone attack on the Black Sea port city of Odesa overnight injured three individuals, ignited fires, and caused damage to homes and civilian infrastructure.

Local authorities reported that multiple morning assaults by Russian aviation and artillery in Kherson resulted in one death and three injuries. Ukraine’s emergency service noted that three individuals were injured and multiple fires ignited in Odesa following the overnight strike there.

In Odesa, residents sifted through the wreckage of multiple destroyed homes. One woman cleared debris from a church where windows had been shattered. The Ukrainian air force reported that they intercepted 57 of the 97 drones launched by Russia overnight, while an additional 34 drones likely failed to reach their targets due to electronic warfare defences.

The fate of the other six drones was not mentioned. Additionally, emergency services reported that an attack on Kamianske in the Dnipropetrovsk region resulted in injuries to two individuals and caused damage to a gas pipeline. By morning, the fires had been extinguished.
