Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has expressed that the possibility of another meeting between President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump is on the agenda.
“I wouldn’t rule anything out,” the top diplomat said in an interview for the state-owned International Affairs magazine.
“The search for a way forward continues,”
he said.
How are Russia and the United States maintaining dialogue channels?
He said contacts between Msocwo and Washington had not been suspended, and channels for discussion continued to operate.
“We are working on an ongoing basis. We have well-established formats and channels. Not all of these channels are visible or audible, not all of them need to be discussed publicly, but the fact remains that everything is in working order.”
Ryabkov said the advancement in setting up dialogue between Russia and the U.S. was “impressive”.
Is a trilateral summit with China and the US planned?
He also remarked on the possibility of a trilateral summit with China and the United States on nuclear stability, saying that Russia did not plan to push Beijing towards it.
“We have no questions for China on the subject of arms control and strategic stability,”
Ryabkov said, adding that Russia had not received any formal proposals from the U.S. regarding such a meeting.
Trump has stated his desire to include China in nuclear arms reduction initiatives alongside the United States and Russia. He stated last month that China might be included in a bilateral nuclear de-escalation initiative that Putin had brought up.
What progress was achieved at the Alaska Putin-Trump meeting?
The most recent meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump took place at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15, 2025.
The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, but no official resolution or agreement was reached. Although both leaders said that some progress had been made in the talks, no firm agreement to halt or end the conflict was reached.
Although the summit ended with an admission that more talks were required, Trump expressed hope for future meetings, including a potential trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. Following the Alaska summit, a planned follow-up meeting in Europe was put on hold indefinitely.
