Moscow (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned an Israel attack on Hamas members in Doha, and urged all parties to avoid actions that would escalate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“Russia considers this incident a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, an encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state, and a step leading to further escalation and destabilisation of the situation in the Middle East,”
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Such methods of fighting those whom Israel considers its enemies and opponents deserve the strongest condemnation.”
“The rocket attack on Qatar… cannot be perceived as anything other than an action aimed at undermining international efforts to find peaceful solutions,”
Russia said.
How many were killed in Israel’s Doha strike?
Israel’s attack in Doha hit residential buildings where several members of Hamas’s political bureau were staying, according to a spokesperson from Qatar’s foreign ministry. Qatar has been a key mediator in talks about a ceasefire in Gaza.
Israeli officials have confirmed that over 10 fighter jets took part in the attack. Hamas stated that the strike resulted in the deaths of five members, although it failed to target the negotiating delegation. A Qatari security official was also killed in the strike.
How did President Trump react to the Israeli attack?
In a statement, US President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with how Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders within Qatar unfolded today, potentially jeopardising the prospects of a ceasefire in Gaza.
“I’m not thrilled about the whole situation. It’s not a good situation,”
He stated, adding he would issue a full statement on Wednesday.
What was China’s response to Israel’s strike in Qatar?
Moreover, China’s foreign ministry on Wednesday also condemned Israel’s strike, linking it to what it referred to as the
“unbalanced stance of certain external powers on Middle East issues”,
In what appeared to be a reference to the US.
China strongly condemned Israel’s breach of Qatar’s territorial integrity, as stated by Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the country’s foreign ministry, at a regular press conference.
“China strongly urges all parties concerned, particularly Israel, to make greater positive efforts to quell the fighting and restart negotiations, rather than the opposite,”
He stated. Without naming the US, China called on “certain major powers” to play a constructive role in promoting a ceasefire, ending hostilities, and easing regional uncertainties.
