Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): The Actiris building in Brussels is being redeveloped into The Dome featuring Eataly, AD Delhaize, offices and 55 apartments with completion expected by April 2026.

The building in a busy part of Brussels right across from the Beurs (Bourse), and it sits at the corners of Paul Delvauxstraat, Kiekenmark, and Anspachlaan. Recently it has been covered in bright blue scaffolding showing that big demolition work is happening. This construction is part of a redevelopment project for the area. The demolition of the building is a big change for the neighborhood. It has been said that the bright blue scaffolding makes it easy for people walking by to see the demolition happening. This kind of redevelopment happens a lot in cities as they grow and update their buildings and roads.

What are the key features and timeline of the redevelopment project for the old Actiris building in Brussels known as The Dome?

The old Actiris building in Brussels shut down in May 2023 and has seen limited use since with just an AD Delhaize store, a few artists and some coworking spaces in parts of it. Originally the redevelopment plan aimed for completion by the end of 2024 but this timeline proved unrealistic due to various issues pushing the new target to mid-2025. The first phase which began in August last year focused on asbestos removal and turned out to be much larger than anticipated requiring an additional year for further checks after the building was emptied. They expect to finish demolition by the end of this year, with reconstruction starting afterward and a new completion goal set for April 2026. The project called The Dome will retain about 90 percent of the facade and some structural elements while completely demolishing the rest and restoring the natural stone of the corner tower and first floor.

The Italian supermarket Eataly will take up 3,500 square meters on part of the ground floor and the entire first floor at Beursplein, Anspachlaan, and Delvaustraat. The AD Delhaize supermarket will also be back on the ground floor and in the basement covering 2,200 square meters. Besides these stores, there will be offices on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. De Vos mentioned that this commercial area will be ready soon. On the 5th to 8th floors there will be 55 apartments and studios ranging from 38 to 105 square meters designed for shared living with common areas. A year before everything is finished they will start looking for potential tenants.
