Nicolas Denys of Flanders Classics stated:
“As an organisation, we feel at home in the city and it is a beautiful finish. The finish on the Elisabethlaan can be very beautiful. It is slightly sloping and the finish can be either a solo or a sprint. The certainty is that we always have a beautiful finale, with the best riders. For us, the decision to have and keep Ninove as the finish was quickly made”.
How did Ninove become a key location for the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad?
Ninove stands as a core Belgian cycling destination because it participated in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad competition for numerous years. This annual race began in 1945, creating a heritage as Europe’s oldest and most respected spring classic. Since 2008, Ninove adopted the finish line role from Gent and established itself as the traditional end point of the race event.
The slightly inclined slope of Elisabethlaan commemorates many heart-pounding solo breakthroughs combined with high-speed sprint crowning winners who make the race memorable.
