Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Muntpunt in Brussels has reopened after major renovations, featuring an open auditorium, revamped children’s department, upgraded digital zone, and a new youth café area, Director Roel Van Den Sichtenhorst confirmed.

As VRT News reported, Muntpunt, the central library and cultural hub for the Flemish community in Brussels, has reopened after a major renovation. The building has been redesigned to act as more than a library and now serves as an active meeting place for the city.

Director Roel Van Den Sichtenhorst said the auditorium will host talks, readings, and presentations that reflect daily life in Brussels. He explained that the new design allows the library to act as a stage for public exchange while keeping reading and learning at its core.

How has Muntpunt in Brussels transformed after its renovation?

The renovation of Muntpunt has included a full renewal of the children’s department. The entire 3rd floor has been redesigned. The digital department, where the computers are located, has also been upgraded to provide better access to technology and study tools.

In the café, a new youth area has been created. This space also includes PlayStation consoles. Officials mentioned that the updates are designed to make the library more open for visitors of all ages.

The reopening program was launched with special events for the public. On Sunday, Sep 20, 2025, Muntpunt hosted an open mic session and a performance by the Letterfretters, focusing on Dutch language and literature.

Director Roel Van Den Sichtenhorst said the reopening is being celebrated with “great enthusiasm” and invited people to discover the renewed spaces. The library will also take part in Car-Free Sunday, when visitors will be able to buy books and DVDs at low prices.

Muntpunt first opened its doors in 2012 as the main Dutch-language library and cultural centre in Brussels, located on Muntplein close to the opera house. It was set up as a central meeting place for the Flemish community in the capital and soon became a key venue for events, debates, and cultural activities. The latest renovation, completed in September 2025, is the first large-scale update since its opening and was planned to adjust the building to the changing needs of the city.
