Machelen Warehouse Fire: Firefighters Battle Blaze, Residents Advised to Stay Safe

Mechelen (Brussels Morning) – A large fire broke out at a warehouse in Machelen, causing significant smoke and traffic disruptions in the area. Firefighters are working to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading with no reported injuries so far.

The incident happend on June 13,2024. The fire started around 4 p.m. and made a lot of smoke that could be seen from far away. The Delhaize store is closed because of the fire causing traffic issues in the area.

How are Authorities Handling the Brucargo Warehouse Fire in Machelen?

The fire was still on until 6 p.m. Firefighters were letting the warehouse burn in a controlled manner to prevent it from spreading to other buildings and keep everyone nearby safe. Jeanfils said firefighters will keep working all night to put out the fire completely and make sure it’s safe. Authorities were watching closely and working together to handle the situation and keep everyone in the area safe.

After 6 p.m. Mayor Jean-Pierre De Groef of Machelen said  that Shed 734 collapsed due to the big fire and is burning under control. This shed is utilized by multiple companies so no injuries have been reported. Firefighters are expected to continue their efforts for an extended period to fully extinguish the fire and manage any remaining risks.

Firefighters worked for a long time to put out the fire.The Brussels fire brigade sent more help to the scene. They brought two truck pumps a ladder truck and a tanker to support the operation. These extra resources helped to deal with the situation.

Mayor Kurt Ryon of Steenokkerzeel shared on Facebook that the fire is in a warehouse at Brucargo in Machelen not in Steenokkerzeel. But because of the wind smoke is blowing towards Steenokkerzeel especially impacting Melsbroek residents. Mayor Ryon asked people in Melsbroek to close doors and windows and turn off vents because of the smoke from the fire. This is to keep everyone safe and healthy during the incident. Public transport in the area is messed up because of the emergency. De Lijn the transport company says there are no buses from Machelen Cargo Discount P1 to Korenberg right now. People should find other ways to travel or check for updates on when the buses will run normally again.
