Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The Juli-foor (July 5–20) and Augustusfoor (August 2–17) return to Antwerp’s Steenplein in 2025 after 2 years at Sint-Jansvliet, despite ongoing Scheldekaaien flood works.
As VRT News reported, the Juli- and Augustusfoor will happen at Steenplein this summer, just like always. The Juli-foor will be from July 5 to July 20, 2025, and the Augustusfoor will be from August 2 to August 17, 2025. After this summer, the city will see what happens with the flood work. Then, they’ll decide if the funfairs can stay at Steenplein for good or if they need to find another place.
They’ll think about safety, how easy it is to get there, and how it affects the city. Officials mentioned that people in Antwerp can enjoy the funfairs again in their old spot, with rides, games, and the happy feeling that the Juli- and Augustusfoor have brought to the city for a long time.
Will Antwerp’s Juli- & Augustusfoor stay at steenplein after 2025?
Even though the flood work is still going on, the city is letting the funfairs come back to Steenplein for a special time this summer in 2025. The construction is happening in stages. Officials mentioned that between these stages, the Steenplein is safe and open for people to use.
The city decided to bring the Juli- and Augustusfoor back to where they used to be, just for this year. The city wants to keep its traditions alive while it builds and changes. They mentioned that it gives people a chance to enjoy the special feeling of the Steenplein as a funfair, something they’ve missed since the fairs moved.
Antwerp’s popular Juli- and Augustusfoor funfairs had to move for 2 years. Usually, the funfairs happen at the Steenplein. But in 2022, the city started big work to protect against floods along the Scheldekaaien, which is near the Steenplein. Because of this work, the Steenplein couldn’t be used for big events. So, the funfairs went to Sint-Jansvliet instead.
