Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Some people think that catcalling like whistles, suggestive comments, and sexual advances is just an unpleasant part. However, they must realize that it can be hard to endure it after you experience it on daily basis. Have you wondered what is catcalling sexual harassment? The answer is yes in many situations. If you have been the target of catcalling, then you can do a lot of things to address the issue. You must put this practice of others to an end by finding a solution.

Is Catcalling Sexual Harassment

Catcalling is illegal because it is sexual harassment. If it occurs in the workplace, then you must take action against it. Sexual harassment is prohibited in the workplace and anywhere else. You are experiencing catcalling if there is Verbal conduct of a sexual nature.

Physical conduct of a sexual nature is also considered to be catcalling. If you experience any kind of unwelcome sexual advances, then you are a victim. If you hear any comments about someone’s sex or pregnancy/childbirth and sexual orientation, then this is catcalling as well.

These behaviors are often followed by many catcalling people and many victims have to endure pain due to catcalling. If conduct is sexual, unwelcome, and “severe then it is illegal sexual harassment.

Ways To Deal With Catcalling

“Severe and pervasive” is an isolated incident of offensive behavior that is not actionable. It is a pattern of behavior that must be stopped. If the catcalling is severe then you must file a complaint against it. You must put an end to the hostile environment because you deserve to live in peace.

Vent Your Anger

It is important to vent your anger as this will help you to feel better. You should talk to a close friend or message your local Catcalls group. This is a good way to respond to a catcall because you can tell someone about what happened. If you are bold enough then it is a great idea to stop and stare them down with fury. This will allow you to vent your anger.

File A Complaint

You must take a picture or gather proof of catcalling to file a complaint against it. Harassment can make you feel powerless. It is best to take legal action when you are catcalled. You can use documentation to fuel the fight against harassment.

Share Your Story

The act of sharing your story will provide you with relief. This can lift the weight off your shoulders. You can also share your story online and talk to people who have gone through a similar story. It is a great idea to let things off your chest by talking your someone you trust.

Ignore It

If you are in doubt and are not sure about the incident, then it is best to ignore the issue. This could be the best response because catcallers will be bored of your no response as they will have no fun out of their act. If you are not interested in escalating the situation, then it is best to avoid the harassers. It is best to not give them any attention and ignore them.

Never feel bad ignoring street harassment. You don’t have to interact with a stranger with no manners. It is best to ignore them as giving a no response will leave a good impression on you. Your safety is most important so it is best to ignore it. You never know how a stranger will react if you respond to them.

Keep Rocking

One of the worst effects of street harassment is that the victim often feels that the harassment is due to their actions. Many people feel that they are catcalled because it is their fault. Younger folks often blame themselves for wearing certain clothes. They often feel that walking late at night might be the reason why they are catcalled.

Respond To The Catcallers

If you are around many people and you feel safe then you can respond to the catcallers immediately. You can make a strong comeback and tell them to stop doing something so worthless and shameless.

It is not always a great idea to get frozen in front of the catcallers as this can boost their confidence. If you are unable to think of a good script to respond, then telling them to stop what they are doing good be a good choice. You can try saying something simple and firm like this is harassment or just tell them that don’t do that.
