Ingooigem (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Anzegem is investing €2.5 million to build a new school in Ingooigem on Pastor Verrieststraat, uniting primary schools. Alderman Petra Devos (Samenéén) says it ensures a modern, future-proof learning environment.
The town of Anzegem is spending €2.5 million to build a new school in Ingooigem, municipality of Anzegem in the province of West Flanders. The new school will be on Pastor Verrieststraat and will bring together all the primary schools in town. Right now, the schools are in 2 different places, one on the road to Vichte and the other on Pastor Verrieststraat.
The school on the road to Vichte will move to the new building on Pastor Verrieststraat, and the existing school there will be bigger. Officials mentioned that all the primary students will be in one modern school, which will help the teachers and students work better together. This project is part of Anzegem’s plan to make its schools better.
Alderman for Education Petra Devos (Samenéén) says.
We are now going to move the school along the main road to Vichte to the Pastor Verrieststraat. The current school there is getting a serious expansion.
How will Ingooigem’s new €2.45M school improve education?
The new school will have 9 classrooms for primary school and 3 for nursery school. The town is spending this money because they want to ensure that the school is good for the future. Officials mentioned that the new school will be a good place for kids to learn and it will also help the whole community, including the local youth group.
We estimate everything at 2.45 million euros excluding VAT. But this project not only offers extra space and modern facilities, it also contributes to a future-proof and high-quality environment for students and the youth association,
the alderman concludes.
In 2020, the schools in Vichte became their separate schools, while the schools in Ingooigem and Engelhoek became part of the town’s education system. Alderman mentioned that this was done to make it easier to run the schools. The new school will also be close to other things in the town, like a childcare centre and the Ingooigem Military Cemetery.
The town originally wanted to put the Chiro youth group’s building inside the new school. But in 2023, the town bought a house on Stijn Streuvelstraat and decided to move the Chiro there instead. Officials mentioned that the school and the Chiro will both have their own space, and they will still be close to each other.
The first plans were to integrate the Chiro premises into the new building,
says Alderman Devos.
