Heusden-Zolder (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Heusden-Zolder plans a new indoor pool at Terlaemen. It may be 25m x 10m. The town seeks a private partner. Alderman Mario Carremans (GOED) leads the project.

Heusden-Zolder, a municipality in the province of Limburg, Belgium, is building an indoor swimming pool. The town has chosen the Terlaemen site for the pool and is looking for a company to help build and run it. Officials mentioned that the pool needs to be at least 18 meters long and 8 meters wide, but the town would prefer a larger pool that is 25 meters long and 10 meters wide.

They stated that this would enable more individuals to utilise the pool, such as sports teams, schools, and everyday swimmers. Next Thursday, April 24, 2025, the town council will discuss a 130-page report containing all the specifics of the project.

They mentioned that this document includes things like the design of the building, how the pool will be run, how to make it environmentally friendly, safety rules, and who will be responsible for managing and maintaining the pool.

Will Heusden-Zolder finally get its long-awaited indoor pool?

The town council is getting ready to choose a company to build and run the new swimming pool. Instead of doing it themselves, they’re going to let private companies submit proposals. After the document is approved, companies will be able to submit their plans. The town wants to find a reliable company that can build a modern, accessible, and environmentally friendly swimming pool that everyone in Heusden-Zolder can enjoy for many years.

“Hopefully, there are many candidates who will help us set up the plan,”

Says Alderman for Sports Mario Carremans (GOED).

Heusden-Zolder hasn’t had an indoor swimming pool for over 10 years, since the old one on Dekenstraat closed. Officials said that this has been a big problem for the town, especially for school children who have to travel to other towns for swimming lessons and recreational swimming.

They said that it’s been hard for schools to organise swimming lessons, and lots of children have not had the opportunity to learn to swim. The town council stated that this has to change and that the children of Heusden-Zolder must again be able to use a swimming pool.

The new pool will be available to everyone living in Heusden-Zolder, but most importantly, it will be used to learn children how to swim. The town council would like to ensure that all the children in Heusden-Zolder get an opportunity to learn swimming, because they are concerned that fewer and fewer children are learning to swim these days.

They prefer parents to know that their children can swim very well and can be safe upon going on vacations. There is also going to be room at the pool for other activities such as aqua gym, games, swimming recreationally, and fitness.
