30 people participate in World Tai Chi Day by doing tai chi together at 10 a.m. at the domein Kiewit in Hasselt. Gert Clerckx, a tai chi coach, says that tai chi is more than just slow, graceful movements.
He mentioned that it is a way to help energy flow freely through the body. Gert explained that tai chi can make individuals feel less tense and stressed. He said that tai chi is a means of connecting with your body and mind amidst a world that never stops moving quickly.
What benefits have Gert, Mike, and Fabienne found in tai chi?
Gert Clerckx, who teaches tai chi, learned the advantages of tai chi after he was injured in an accident. Tai chi is not just for old people, according to him. It is useful for anyone, regardless of age.
He mentioned that Practising tai chi can make your body stronger, balance will improve, and you will be more flexible. Gert says that learning to stand up straight through tai chi can make you feel more confident. Tai chi is not just good for your body, it is also good for your mind and emotions.
Mike Frehe, who is 85 years old, has been doing tai chi for 8 years. She says it has become a very important part of her life. Mike says that tai chi is more than just moving your body. It’s like moving your body and mind at the same time, which helps her feel connected to the world around her.
She told me that it is similar to allowing energy to pass through her from the ground. She stated that it calms her and makes her feel at peace. Mike feels balanced, both physically and emotionally, after practising tai chi.
Fabienne Descamps, who is 68 years old, started doing tai chi a few years ago. She saw people doing tai chi in parks and squares in China. Fabienne was curious about tai chi and decided to try it when she got home. She is happy she did because tai chi has made her life better in many ways.
“I’ve been doing it for a few years now, and I notice that I feel much more confident. I stand stronger on my legs. Tai chi has improved my flexibility and balance enormously, something that is not unimportant at my age,”
Fabienne concludes.
Tai Chi, also referred to as Tai Chi Chuan, is a traditional Chinese martial art whose origins date back over 600 years. During the Song Dynasty, it was developed, yet its contemporary variation began in the 16th century. Tai Chi is a part of Taoist philosophy that holds the faith in harmonising Yin and Yang, which are contrary yet complementary.
