Fred Bekky condolence book available in Antwerp, Hoboken

Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A condolence book for Fred Bekky is available at Antwerp city hall (9:00-17:30) until February 28, 2025 and at Hoboken’s Sorghvliedt Castle. Bekky, of The Pebbles, was a key Belgian musician and TV personality.

On February 22, 2025, starting at 9:00, people can sign a condolence book for Frederik Beekmans, who many know as Fred Bekky. This book is at the reception of Antwerp City Hall. It will be open for a full week. 

According to officials, everyone can pay their respects every day from 9:00 to 17:30.  The last day to sign the book will be Friday, 28 February 2025. They mentioned that this is a way for friends, fans, and local people to express their sympathy. 

In addition to the condolence book at city hall, there will be another book at the Hoboken district office. This office is located at the historic Sorghvliedt Castle. The new book will open on Monday, February 24, 2024, at 13:00. It will be available on weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00 until the day of the funeral. This second location helps more people join in the tribute, especially those from Hoboken. 

What was  Fred Bekky’s impact on Belgian music?

In the 1960s, Fred Bekky started his music career. He was the vocalist and guitarist of The Pebbles, which was a Belgian band. The band was the most significant rock band in Belgium during the time.

Bekky was also a songwriter. He wrote songs for well-known musicians including Ann Christy, Yasmine, and Jo Vally. Officials mentioned that many famous vocalists found success with his songs. 

Fred Bekky was also well known for his television work. In the 1990s, he was a member of a popular talent show called De Soundmixshow. This show aired on VTM and helped discover new singing talents. 

At the age of 81, he died last night, February 21, 2025. The city has established an online condolence registry in remembrance of him. This register is available on the official website. They mentioned that it allows fans and well-wishers to leave messages of sympathy.
