London (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A group of European leaders gather in London for crisis discussions, looking to expand security cooperation and support for Ukraine after an unexpected blowout between Kyiv and Washington.
Ukraine’s partners have been highlighting their steadfast dedication to counter increasing concerns that U.S. President Donald Trump is concerned about selling Kyiv short in talks with Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was warmly received at Downing Street a day earlier. He twice assumed the British prime minister in front of cameras and secured a loan to support defences weakened by more than three years of guarding off Russia’s invasion.
I thank the people and government of the United Kingdom for their tremendous support from the very beginning of this war,
Zelenskyy stated.
We are happy to have such strategic partners and to share the same vision of what a secure future should look like for all.
The pair examined Ukraine’s standing and how to conclude the war
with a lasting and just peace … that will not allow Russia to use the ceasefire to rearm and attack again,
according to a statement issued by Zelenskyy’s office.
Zelenskyy is due to have a meeting with King Charles III before joining a cohort of European partners at a security summit.
How will the London summit shape future security deals?
The session brings together heads from around continental Europe, including Germany, France, Denmark, and Italy as well as Turkey, NATO, and the EU.
Now is the time for us to unite in order to guarantee the best outcome for Ukraine, protect European security, and secure our collective future,
U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated.
Downing Street stated summit would again highlight the requirement for a “strong lasting deal that delivers a permanent peace” and examine “next steps on planning for strong security guarantees.”
With worries growing over whether the United States will continue to sustain NATO, the assemblage in the U.K. will also address the need for Europe to boost defence cooperation.
