London (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The European Union and Britain will increase pressure on Russia and enhance defence initiatives, as the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, holds talks with UK foreign minister David Lammy and defence minister John Healey in London.
The discussions will coordinate collaboration on Ukraine and examine efforts to boost economic pressure on Russia, UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said in a statement.
The talks will also include enhancing action against hybrid threats such as cyberattacks, election meddling, and dense Russian disinformation, the statement said.
Lammy and Kallas will also set review measures to increase European defence spending through ‘innovative initiatives’ and military capability in support of NATO.
“It’s vital we upgrade our partnership with the EU and work together to bring an end to this war and deliver security of all of our citizens,”
Lammy stated about the war in Ukraine.
What defence measures are Lammy and Kallas discussing?
Before Tuesday’s session, Lammy stated:
“A strong and secure Britain is a foundation of our Plan for Change. This cannot be achieved without strengthening our shared European security and coming together with our partners to ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
“More than three years on since [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s illegal full-scale invasion, we are facing a once-in-a-generation moment for our continent. It’s vital we upgrade our partnership with the EU and work together to bring an end to this war and deliver security of all of our citizens.”
Demands put forward by Russia to agree to a ceasefire exhibit that Moscow does not really want peace, Kallas said, a day ago. U.S. President Donald Trump stated he would talk to Russia’s Vladimir Putin about concluding the Ukraine war. Trump has been attempting to win Putin’s approval for a 30-day ceasefire proposal that Ukraine accepted last week.
