Cairo (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Egypt condemned remarks by Israeli officials proposing the establishment of a Palestinian state on Saudi territory as “irresponsible.”

Egypt’s foreign ministry stated that the statement was a “direct infringement of Saudi sovereignty” and that the KSA’s security was a “red line for Egypt.”

The Egyptian statement expressed such views were “reprehensible aggression and an infringement of diplomatic norms.”

What did Netanyahu say about a Palestinian state in Saudi?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently made a suggestion that Palestinians can form their state in Saudi Arabia rather than in their historical homeland. This was while speaking to Israeli Channel 14, where he rejected the possibility of a Palestinian state within Palestine as a “security threat” to Israel. Netanyahu said,

“The Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia; they have a lot of land over there,”

Stressing his rejection of Palestinian sovereignty within their own territory.

What role does the Trump plan play in this debate?

Earlier, President Donald Trump suggested that the U.S. take control of Gaza from Israel and build a “Riviera of the Middle East” after relocating Palestinians elsewhere, including in Egypt and Jordan.

The plan has come under heavy criticism from Palestinians, who have refused to leave their homes at all costs. Governments in the region, such as Saudi Arabia, have reaffirmed that an independent Palestinian state remains a condition precedent for normalization with Israel. Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, welcomed the Trump plan as a good omen that requires scrutiny. Still, this stance differs from traditional international support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
