Halle (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): The Halle library now named “De Bospoort,” is returning to the renovated Kasteel Van Volsem enhancing visitor experiences with new facilities like a game area and reading terrace. The community can access services starting Monday.

After being moved to Victor Baetensstraat for two years the library is getting ready to go back to its original home at the Kasteel Van Volsem. The renovation work at the Kasteel Van Volsem is now finished and it included a lot of upgrades and modern changes. This weekend they are adding the final touches to make sure the move back goes smoothly. Starting Monday on 26th August people will be able to use the library’s resources and services again at the Kasteel Van Volsem. This move means the big renovation period is over which aimed to improve the library’s facilities and make the experience better for visitors. The library staff are excited to welcome the community back to their newly updated space.

What historical significance does “De Bospoort” hold for Halle?

The library in Halle has a new name “De Bospoort.” This name was chosen through a competition and has historical meaning. In the 14th century the place where the library is now was one of the seven city gates of Halle. “De Bospoort,” which means “The Forest Gate” honors this history. Claartje Theuwissen who won the naming competition chose the name “De Bospoort” because it connects to the library’s role as a way to access a wider world of knowledge, culture and learning. Just like the old city gate gave people access to the city the library now acts as a doorway to different information and experiences.

Kim Christians who works at the library says the new library should be more than just a place to borrow books. It should be a place to meet people hang out, and learn online. They want to welcome everyone. Pieter Busselot who is in charge of Heritage says they are making the library brighter and more fun. There will be a game area a reading terrace, a computer room and a place for classes. The library is made to feel connected to the outside. Pieter Busselot says the windows let you see Elisabethplein while you read. They also fixed up the square so they can have exhibitions and shows there. There will be a fountain that makes a shallow water area which makes it more fun and brings the outside in.
