Munich (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – As stated by its foreign minister in his remarks to the EU’s policy chief, China told the European Union it is ready to enhance communication with the EU, step up mutual understanding and jointly provide more stability to the world.
Speaking to the EU foreign policy chief on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, said there is no conflict of fundamental interests or geopolitical conflict between China and the European Union.
Separately in another session with his German counterpart, Wang expressed China is willing to intensify communication and coordination with Germany.
Boosting a hand of collaboration to Europe to
“steer the world to a bright future of peace, security, prosperity and progress,”
Wang expressed at the Munich Security Conference.
“It is important to respect international rule of law.”
How does China view the role of the International rule of law?
“The world today is witnessing incessant chaos and confusion and one important reason is that some countries believe might makes right,”
He stated, underlying the significance of rule of law.
Wang expressed key nations should be an example in
“honoring their words and upholding rule of law, and must not say one thing and do another.”
“The purposes and principles of the UN charter provide fundamental guidance for handling international relations and are an important cornerstone of a multipolar world,”
Foreign Minister of China said.
He claimed that China desires to “cooperate” with the EU rather than becoming “rivals,” stating Beijing considers Europe as “an important pole in the multipolar world.”
“China is willing to synergize high quality Belt and Road cooperation with European Union’s global gateway strategy. So as to empower each other and empower the world,”
He stated, indicating that this year was the 50th anniversary of ties between China and the European Union.
How does China’s BRI initiative align with EU goals?
In 2023, Wang Yi, on the China-EU Strategic Partnership Anniversary, reiterated the importance of EU-China relations. He mentioned successful BRI projects like infrastructure developments in Europe. Wang Yi also focused on increased dialogue and cooperation in many areas.
Wang paid a visit to several European nations in February 2024 to intensify high-level exchanges. This visit ensured the stabilisation of China-EU relations by targeting strategic communication.
