Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A fire broke out at 4 a.m. on May 20, 2025, in an engineering school on Almawandeling, Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe. No injuries. Fire under control by 4:35 a.m., Walter Derieuw confirmed.
As VRT News reported, a fire started around 4 a.m. on May 20, 2025, in a building on Almawandeling at the engineering school in Sint-Lanbrechts-Woluwe, a municipality in Brussels. The fire grew quickly. It made a lot of thick smoke. No students were in the building.
Walter Derieuw, who works for the fire department, said that because there were no students, no one got injured. The fire department came fast. They used Ideaallaan to get to the fire. This helped them park their trucks. The fire was big, so they used ladder trucks. These trucks shot water from above. This is often done to stop fires from spreading up high.
How did firefighters quickly contain the roof fire at Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe?
The firefighters also got to the roof through a special room inside the building. Officials mentioned that because the fire department acted quickly and worked well together, the fire didn’t get worse. The fire stayed where it started.
The fire was under control around 4:35 a.m. The fire department worked hard and together to do this. Even though the fire was out, they stayed to make sure everything was safe. They put out any small fires left, took away burnt things, and cleared out the smoke.
They mentioned that this was important to stop the fire from starting again and to keep the building from falling down. They finished everything around 6:00 a.m., which was almost 2 hours after they stopped the fire.
The fire department said they don’t know what caused the fire yet. They will check to see if it was something like a problem with the electricity. They will also check how much damage was done with the help of the person in charge of the building.
They will look closely inside the building, where the fire and smoke caused a lot of damage. They know there were smoke detectors, which might have helped people know about the fire early. They will know more after they do more tests and talk to people.
