Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Two window cleaners got stuck 40 meters high on Antwerpsesteenweg in Brussels when their gondola broke. The Brussels fire brigade’s RISC team quickly rescued them safely, overcoming equipment challenges.

On Antwerpsesteenweg in Brussels, near the Tour & Taxis complex, two window cleaners had a problem on 1st October around 4:30 PM while they were cleaning a building. Their gondola, which they used to reach high places, suddenly got stuck because it broke down.

How did the Brussels fire brigade’s RISC team successfully rescue two window cleaners stuck at 40 meters?

The two window cleaners got stuck at a height of 40 meters while working on a building on Antwerp Sesteenweg in Brussels, near the Tour & Taxis complex. Their gondola stopped working because of a technical issue, leaving them in a dangerous situation. Walter Derieuw, the spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade, talked about the difficulties they faced during the rescue. The usual 30-meter ladder they have wasn’t tall enough to reach the workers, who were stuck much higher than that. They also have a 64-meter ladder that would have been perfect for this situation, but it was being repaired and couldn’t be used.

The Brussels fire brigade quickly responded and sent their special rescue team, known as RISC (Rescue In Safe Conditions), to help. This team is trained to rescue people in tough and dangerous situations like high buildings. When they arrived, they looked at the situation and worked to safely bring the two window cleaners down. Using their special tools and skills, the firefighters made sure the workers were safe during the rescue. After a careful operation, both window cleaners were brought down safely without getting hurt.
