What led to the discovery of a body in the Brussels metro tunnel?

Federal police spokeswoman Jana Verdegem has announced that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death and if foul play was involved. Investigators are collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance footage from the metro. The police have not released further information yet, as the inquiry is still in its early stages. More updates are expected as the investigation continues.

According to MIVB, the Brussels transport company, metro service is heavily disrupted. Since just after 6 a.m., metros on lines 2 and 6 between Elisabeth and Hallepoort stations are not running. It’s not known how long this will last. In the meantime, travelers should use buses, trams, or the working metros 1 and 5.
