It will have space for 52 cars and 24 bicycles. The municipality is making the Mechelsesteenweg safer for people walking and biking.
They are making the road wider for people walking and biking. They are taking away 18 parking spots along the nearby school, between the school and 10 Bergstraat. In making better cycling and walking infrastructure a priority, the municipality wants to make the road environment safer and more accessible for everyone.
How will Willebroek’s new 52-car lot in Blaasveld improve safety?
According to the officials, the new parking lot in Blaasveld will make sure that people can still park. It’s for residents, visitors, and businesses. The town wants to make sure that everyone can get around easily. They want to make the town safer for walking and biking. They also want to make sure there is enough parking. The town councilman, Luc Spiessens, said they wanted to find a way to make up for the parking spaces they were removing. They found a good spot for the new parking lot.

The town planted 24 trees between the parking spaces. They said that this would make the parking lot look nicer and give people shade. The town will also put in a special area to collect rainwater. Officials mentioned that this will help keep the area from flooding. The new parking lot will be finished in the fall of 2025.
They will provide the necessary greenery and, in the long term, also shade. A wadi of about 20 square metres will serve as a rainwater buffer,

The new parking lot will be near the Sint-Joriss School in Blaasveld. The town hopes that parents will use the parking lot when they drop off and pick up their children. Officials mentioned that this will help reduce traffic and make it safer around the school. The parking lot is also near a bus stop.
They explained that it makes it simple for individuals to travel by bus, bike, and car. The town needs to create space where individuals can easily transition among various means of getting around, such as ridesharing, bikes, and buses. They call this a Hoppinpunt. It will help people travel more sustainably.
