Belgian king honors 28 individuals for achievements in various fields

Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) : King Philippe of Belgium will award titles of nobility and honorary decorations to 28 Belgians for their achievements in science, society, culture, and food including singer Stromae and chefs Peter Goossens and Sang Hoon Degeimbre.

28 Belgians will get special titles from the King of Belgium for their achievements in different areas like science, society, culture, and food. The news was shared by La Libre and confirmed by the Belgian Monitor. Stromae, the Belgian singer and rapper (real name Paul Van Haver) will be honored with the Order of the Crown for his music that has made Brussels famous. The 39-year-old is known for songs like ‘Alors on Danse,’ ‘Papaoutai,’ and ‘Formidable.’The titles given by the king are called “royal privileges” in Belgium’s rules. They can be dukes, duchesses, barons, baronesses, counts, or countesses. This weekend the King won’t make any dukes, duchesses, counts, or countesses. Instead he will appoint around 14 barons and baronesses

Who are the notable Belgians receiving royal honors this weekend?

Lieve Mostrey the ex-boss of Euroclear and BNP Fortis Paribas will be recognized for her efforts in supporting women in business. Marc Michils who started the NGO ‘Kom op tegen Kanker,’ will be honored for his cancer research work. Gaëtan Hennecart the cofounder of YouthStart will be acknowledged for his work in youth entrepreneurship. Pierre Gurdjian former ULB Board of Directors chairman will be celebrated for his leadership. Claire Tillekaerts from Flanders Investment, Urban Vandeurzen, Barbara Schmidburg from SOS Villages d’Enfants, François d’Adesky, Salomé Van Billon, Carine Verstraeten, Axel Vervoordt, Véronique Halloin, and Alexis Brouhns will all be honored for their important work in different areas like economic growth, entrepreneurship, child welfare, cultural integration, sports, art, research and diplomacy.

Judge Christine Dr. Marleen Temmerman and chef Peter Goossens will receive the Order of Leopold for their amazing work. Dr. Marleen Temmerman, based in Kenya is honored for her global health and women’s rights efforts especially in reproductive health. Chef Peter Goossens is recognized for his outstanding contributions to cooking known for his creativity in Belgian cuisine.

Besides Goossens other chefs will be honored too. Seppe Nobels will get the Order of the Crown for helping refugees find jobs in his restaurants. Chef Sang Hoon Degeimbre will also receive the same award for his remarkable culinary achievements. They are both praised for their skills and influence in the culinary field. Reginald Moreels, Damya Laoui, Geertrui Serneels, Theo Vaes, Ayman Ramdani, Geneviève Damas, Caroline Lamarche, and Marie Paquay will also be honored. They are recognized for their significant contributions in various fields like healthcare, science, psychology, business, peace-building and literature.
