Will Antwerp’s Fan Village Recapture Its 2018 Glory for the European Championships?
Before the Football World Cup in 2018 Antwerp had already hosted a successful fan village on the Scheldt quays creating a vibrant gathering place for football enthusiasts. However, the subsequent years saw significant disruptions. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented such large gatherings and the World Cup in Qatar held in the winter of 2022 further complicated plans for an outdoor fan village and big screen event.
Now the long-anticipated fan village and big screen are making a triumphant return for the European Championships in Germany. This year fans can once again come together at the Cockerillkaai to celebrate and support the Red Devils.
Filip Pasmans says:
“We are really looking forward to it”
Filp Pasman’s enthusiasm reflects the excitement shared by many fans eager to experience the communal joy and excitement of watching live football together after a prolonged hiatus. The event promises to recapture the spirit and camaraderie of past gatherings, enhanced by live DJ performances and an electric atmosphere.
Not much has changed since 2018 just a slightly bigger screen for better views in the back rows. Doors open 2 hours before matches start. People can grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere. Only Belgian matches are shown in the fan village. Around 10,000 to 15,000 fans can enter more if the Red Devils go far. Almost done with preparations, construction starts this week to be ready by June 17. The fan village is fenced with one main entrance for checks.
