Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The province of Antwerp is spending €25,000 to set up 15 bike repair stations in 12 parks. These stations, supported by Deputy Mireille Colson, will help cyclists fix small issues, making cycling easier and more enjoyable.
The province is taking steps to make cycling easier and more popular. They will install 15 repair points at bike parking areas and reception buildings in 12 parks and recreation spots. These repair points will have tools for cyclists to fix small problems like flat tyres or loose bolts.
According to authorities, this initiative aims to help people use bicycles for fun and commuting. By placing these repair stations in busy cycling areas, the province wants to make it simple for cyclists to keep their bikes working well. They mentioned that this way, they do not have to search for a repair shop, which makes cycling a more convenient choice for everyone.
How is Antwerp promoting cycling with new repair stations?
Authorities mentioned that this project is part of a larger plan by the province to improve cycling options and create a greener way to travel. The repair stations fit with the province’s goal to reduce traffic jams, lower air pollution, and promote active ways of getting around.
They highlight that by making it easier for cyclists to keep their bikes in good shape, this project helps bike riders and works towards using fewer cars. It also aims to improve air quality and encourage healthier habits. With these actions, the province wants to make cycling a more attractive and useful choice for people. This will help everyone live better while moving towards more eco-friendly transportation options.
The province of Antwerp is spending around €25,000 to set up 15 bike repair points at welcome centres and bike parking areas in 12 parks and recreational spots. These stations will have basic tools so cyclists can fix small problems with their bikes by themselves.
Mireille Colson, who oversees Provincial Green and Recreational Areas, said this project aims to make the province more bike-friendly. By adding these easy-to-use repair stations, the province wants to improve the cycling experience for casual riders and commuters. This will help them handle small issues while riding and make their trips more enjoyable.
“With these bicycle repair points, we are working towards an even more bicycle-friendly province of Antwerp,”

“Recreational cyclists and commuters can solve minor technical problems along the way. This makes the journey even more pleasant for the many cyclists.”
Mireille Colson mentioned that this project supports the province’s plan to improve bike paths and encourage cycling as a green way to travel. The repair stations are in busy spots, like popular bike routes and near parking areas, so they are easy to reach.
He highlights each station has basic tools like tyre pumps and wrenches for fixing common bike problems. This effort helps the cycling community and aims to reduce car use, improve air quality, and promote healthier lifestyles.

The bicycle repair stations will be placed in easy-to-reach areas. They will be found at welcome spots, cafes, and service buildings. These places often have toilets and rest areas, which are good for cyclists. New repair points will be set up soon at Kesselse Heide, Hoge Mouw in Kasterlee, Vrieselhof in Oelegem, and the Provincial Institute for Environmental Education in Lier.
Some stations are already open. They are located at Zilvermeer in Mol, Arboretum in Kalmthout, De Nekker and Vribroekpark in Mechelen, Broek De Naeyer in Willebroek, De Averegten in Heist-op-den-Berg, Prinsenpark in Retie, and Rivierenhof in Deurne.
“For example, they will be located in reception areas, catering establishments and service buildings. These locations often also offer other facilities, such as toilets and rest areas, which makes them extra attractive to cyclists.”
