Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A minor in Antwerp was arrested for the 4th time in 6 months for drug dealing near Central Station; police and the Immigration Office are monitoring his case.
As VRT News reported, a minor in Antwerp has been arrested for selling drugs for the 4th time in 6 months. Antwerp police caught the teenager yesterday, Jan 2, 2025, near Antwerp Central Station after he tried to run from a checkpoint. During the search, officers discovered several doses of drugs, packaging materials, and a mobile phone, indicating that he was actively involved in drug distribution.
What led to repeated arrests of a minor drug dealer in Antwerp?
Further investigation showed that the young man was living illegally in Belgium and had previouslyescaped from a juvenile detention centre. He had already been caught dealing drugs 3 times in a short period, which led to his placement in the detention facility.
Authorities had been keeping him under close watch, but he continued to break the law despite previous interventions. After the arrest, the minor appeared before the juvenile court judge to face legal proceedings. The Immigration Office is also following the case because of his irregular status in the country.
Repeated incidents of minors selling drugs have been reported in Belgium’s history, particularly in recent years; for example, throughout 2024, several juveniles from Antwerp and Brussels were taken into custody multiple times because they were already under juvenile supervision.
In early 2025, a number of those same individuals escaped from their places of detention, where they had been placed to avoid committing more crimes and began selling drugs again, leading to increased surveillance by local police agencies.
