Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Police in Antwerp arrested 4 suspects, including a 23-year-old main suspect, linked to a February 3, 2025, bank card scam (€3,600 stolen) and a February 4, 2025, Borgerhout home invasion with robbery and threats.

As VRT News reported, Police in Antwerp have arrested 4 suspects. They are linked to a home invasion and a bank card fraud. Investigators found a connection between the 2 crimes. The police used security videos and phone records. A 23-year-old man is the main suspect. He pretended to be a bank employee in the fraud.

He was also involved in the home invasion. 3 more suspects were found. One was already being watched by the police. The police arrested all 4 suspects on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. A judge has decided to keep them in custody.

Did a €3,600 bank card scam lead to a Borgerhout home invasion?

On February 3rd, 2025, a woman from Antwerp was the victim of a well-planned bank card scam. She received a phone call from a person who pretended to be an employee of her bank. The caller convinced her that there was an issue that required them to collect her bank card for security reasons.

Because she trusted the caller, she handed over her card when the person came to her home. After taking the card, the fraudster withdrew money from different locations, stealing a total of 3,600 euros. The woman only found out about the theft when she noticed the unauthorised transactions on her account.

On February 4, 2025, a home invasion happened in Borgerhout, Belgium, the night after the bank card scam. 2 men broke into a woman’s house on Helmstraat. They threatened her with a knife to scare her.

The men then searched the house and left after taking jewellery, money, her ID card, and her wallet. The police responded quickly. Police are investigating whether this break-in is related to the bank card scam from the previous day, as the timing and location are close.
