Accident in Ostend: Bystanders’ heroic efforts unable to save elderly woman’s life.

Ostend (Brussels Morning): A 77-year-old woman was tragically killed after being hit by a car near a Carrefour in Ostend. Bystanders and emergency responders worked hard to save her but her injuries were too severe. The young driver was deeply affected and received emotional support. The investigation is ongoing.

An accident happened near the Carrefour in the Vuurtorenwijk neighborhood. A 77-year-old woman was hit by a car and got stuck underneath it. People nearby acted quickly. They worked together to lift the car off the woman before the emergency services got there. Despite their efforts the situation was serious when the fire brigade led by fire captain Nathalie Van Moorter, arrived at the scene. When the fire brigade arrived they took charge of the situation. They found the woman badly hurt and started trying to revive her. Her condition was very critical needing urgent medical help. Fire captain Nathalie Van Moorter mentioned that they tried to revive her for a long time. Despite the hard work of everyone involved, including the bystanders and the professional rescuers, the woman’s injuries were too severe and she didn’t make it.

After the accident the police Victim Support Service quickly came to help. They are a special team that gives emotional support to people who have been through tough situations. They made sure the young driver got the care and advice she needed to deal with the shock and upset feelings. It has been said that the Victim Support Service was really important in helping the driver emotionally after the accident, being there for her during this difficult time.

What Steps Are the Authorities Taking to Thoroughly Investigate the Tragic Accident in Ostend?

Authorities are not sure what caused the accident near Carrefour in Vuurtorenwijk. The public prosecutor’s office is leading the investigation and sending a traffic expert to carefully look into what happened. To make sure they investigate properly the road where the accident happened, Stroombanklaan, has been completely shut down. This is to keep everything intact for the investigation. They will keep Stroombanklaan closed until the traffic expert finishes checking everything and collects enough evidence to figure out why the accident happened. Authorities mentioned that this is important so that the investigators can get the right information and understand what caused the events. Authorities are seriously taking the investigation trying to find out all the factors that played a part and fully understand what happened.
