Anderlecht (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A new €78 million police station opened near Brussels-South station, serving Anderlecht, Forest, and Saint-Gilles, hosting 700 staff. Police Chief Jurgen De Landsheer and Mayor Charles Spapens highlight faster response times and central services.
As VRT News reported, a new police station opened this morning, Dec 5, 2025, near Brussels-South station in Anderlecht. The building offers space for about 700 staff members and gives the police zone a modern workplace. It includes updated equipment, safer facilities, and clearer work areas. The location is next to the major transport hub. It replaces the old site on Démosthenestraat in Anderlecht.
“Thanks to this new police station, we can reduce the response time for our police officers,”
says Mayor Charles Spapens (PS) of Forest.
“The building is centrally located between Anderlecht, Forest, and Saint-Gilles, making it useful for the residents of these three municipalities, as the police will be able to arrive on scene more quickly.”
What does the new €78M Brussels-South police station in Anderlecht offer residents?
Residents of Anderlecht, Forest, and Saint-Gilles can now visit the new station at any hour. Officials mentioned that the reception area is open day and night for filing complaints, requesting help, or seeking information.
“The first 80 police officers have already started working here. We hope to be fully operational by March 2026, and then we’ll start offering reception services to residents,”
says police chief Jurgen De Landsheer.
Police officials say the new station is meant to strengthen the force’s image. The building brings several services together in one central site. It replaces 5 smaller and outdated stations.
“There were many complaints about long wait times for police to arrive, and about the difficulty of requesting assistance. We’re now choosing a neighbourhood with the highest crime rate in our police zone, which should increase the feeling of safety. We’ll be able to patrol more frequently and respond more quickly. We’ll have a visible presence. A police station opened in the Zuidstation itself a year ago, and this will be added now,”
De Landsheer continues.
The project cost €78 million, and the zone says the spending is a long-term investment. Leaders expect the central position and modern facilities to lower future costs and support smoother service. They believe the joined services will help staff and resources work more efficiently, allowing the building to pay for itself over time.
The project was first announced in 2018 after reviews showed that the 5 older stations were no longer fit for daily work. Construction started in 2020 on a site near Brussels-South station, chosen for its central location and strong transport links. The building was finished in late 2024 and opened in early 2025.
