Veurne (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The bpost strike in Veurne ended after several days. 4 extra services will run until December 2025. Spokesperson Mathieu Godefroy and union leader Bruno Derveaux confirmed the agreement.
As VRT News reported, the strike at the bpost distribution centre in Veurne, in the province of West Flanders, Belgium, has ended after several days of disruption. Postal workers and management have reached an agreement to ease the workload during the busy end-of-year period. The deal provides 4 additional services that will run until the end of December 2025.
What led bpost workers in Verne to end their strike?
The bpost spokesperson Mathieu Godefroy said the company will review the situation in January 2026.
“We will then evaluate whether structural reinforcement is necessary,”
he explained. He added that the proposal had been available from the start of the talks, but workers accepted it only after a few days.
Union representative Bruno Derveaux from the socialist trade union confirmed that an agreement has been reached. He said the negotiations were difficult because new delivery routes often cause disagreement among staff.
“When new rounds are introduced, one in three postal workers is happy, one in three finds it challenging, and one in three finds it impossible to manage,”
Derveaux explained.
“Measures have now been taken to alleviate the workload,”
Derveaux continues.
“The extra shifts will be available starting Monday. And there will indeed be an evaluation. If it turns out that the postal workers are still not getting enough time to do their work, bpost is willing to consider additional services.”
The strike at the Bpost centre in Veurne began in mid-October 2025 after workers protested new delivery routes that increased their workload. Postal staff said the new system made it hard to finish their rounds on time. Talks between bpost and trade unions started soon after, but took several days to reach progress. On October 30, 2025, an agreement was reached after long negotiations.
