Antwerp (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 5-person car struck the back end of a truck in Berchem while driving on the Antwerp Ring toward the Netherlands. The accident caused harm to all passengers inside the vehicle, and three passengers faced life-threatening injuries. The fatal traffic incident occurred on the E19 exit route.

Three people found themselves in mortal danger after a serious accident took place on the Antwerp Ring near the Netherlands first thing in the morning. Five people were seriously injured after their vehicle collided with a truck which blocked the entrance of the E19 slip road in Berchem.

The passengers suffered injuries to various degrees during the incident, and three patients faced life-threatening conditions. The accident has created disruptive traffic conditions across the region.

The police received the call around 6:15 a.m.

“A passenger car had crashed into a stationary truck,”

Says Jana Verdegem of the federal police.

“It was queuing coming from the E19 after the Craeybeckxtunnel to enter the Ring”.

There were 5 occupants in the car. They were all injured.

“Everyone was taken to hospital, 3 people are in mortal danger.”

What is the background of the Antwerp Ring Accident?

Belgium’s Antwerp Ring serves the three major cities of Brussels as well as Ghent and Hasselt by providing transportation to more than 300,000 vehicles on a daily basis. Accidents on the Ring have reached a 12% elevation since last year, based on Flemish Traffic Centre records, as traffic congestion keeps worsening during peak times.

Materials and changes in traffic patterns within slip roads and merging lanes across the E19 area make these areas high-traffic zones with increased collision risks. The Craeybeckxtunnel stands as an important structural element of the Ring, where traffic backups frequently create dangerous situations.
