London (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed that his country is ready to sign a minerals deal with Washington. “It is our policy to continue what happened in the past. We’re constructive,” Zelenskyy expressed, stating: “If we agreed to sign the minerals deal, we’re ready to sign it.”
He was questioned about the future of the deal, Zelenskyy told journalists at London’s Stansted Airport that the minerals agreement is ready for the relevant minister’s signature. He was also asked regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements on a possible one-month truce between Russia and Ukraine.
French newspaper Le Figaro reported that Macron said that he and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had proposed a temporary break to hostilities “in the air, (and) at sea.” Asked if he was familiar with the proposal, Zelenskyy replied:
“I’m aware of everything.”
How did Zelenskyy respond to questions on territorial concessions?
According to VOA, on whether he was ready to discuss territorial concessions or voice regret to US President Donald Trump following their hectic White House exchange last week, he did not directly answer the question. Instead, he stated: “I just want the Ukrainian position to be heard,” saying he did not want any ambiguity.
He also said that mutual understanding was required, stressing that “red lines” were not driven by emotion but were absolutely a reality that must be accepted.
How does Zelenskyy view European unity amid the conflict?
Ukrainian president also conveyed his thoughts on the arrangement with world leaders in London, voicing gratitude for the firm support Ukraine continues to accept. “We feel strong support for Ukraine, our people: soldiers and civilians, our independence,” he said.
“Together, we are working in Europe to establish a solid foundation for cooperation with the United States in pursuit of true peace and guaranteed security,”
He also said. Zelenskyy also stressed that European unity is at a high level in a way that
“has not been seen for a long time.”
What security guarantees is Ukraine discussing with its partners?
Zelenskyy further said that Ukraine is consulting with its partners on security guarantees and the framework for a just peace and that several critical meetings and decisions are being scheduled soon.
Additionally, he was questioned whether Ukraine would carry the current line of contact as its de facto new boundary. He answered by highlighting that Sunday’s discussions in London concentrated on initial steps and that he would not reveal details until arrangements were formalized.
He made it obvious that Kyiv would never recognize Russian-occupied regions as part of the Russian Federation. He unleashed hope that security assurances would make additional Russian aggression “100% impossible” but restated that he would only debate specifics once Ukraine’s partners had signed deals.
